i know that it allows logging of ip addresses for comments, but what about just visiting their page?

Unless they specifically put a counter on their profile page or journal, then no, they can't see who is looking at their page.
Reply:Nope. There is no tracking in this case unless the site is governmental or of secret forces - FBA, KGB, etc.
Reply:Yes. You can not go anywhere on the internet and not have the IP you are at be seen. It's the way the internet is designed.
